Hostage: Missing Celebrity is the newest action thriller film from South Korea. It stars Hwang Jung Min (Deliver Us From Evil), Lee Yoo Mi (Squid Game), and Ryu Kyung-Soo (Hellbound). It is the feature debut written and directed by Pil Gam-seong. The movie is based off the 2015 Chinese film, Saving Mr. Wu.
It is a reality action film starring Hwang Jung Min as himself. After the primere of one of his movies, Hwang Jung Min is kidnapped in the middle of Seoul.

In the beginning, he thinks it‘s a prank.

Then when the kidnappers start abusing him, Hwang Jung Min starts realizing it’s a real kidnapping.

He is taken to a hideout where there are other kidnap victims. All have large ransom demands from the kidnappers. When one of them can’t pay…Hwang Jung Min sees for himself what will happen to him. The kidnappers are demanding to be paid in twenty-four hours from Hwang Jung Min or else.

Realizing time is running short, Hwang Jung Min and the other victims decide to fight back against the kidnappers. They devise a plan to escape when the moment comes.

Fighting for his life, Hwang Jung Min is going to have to use all of the skills he learned as an action film star to use. Will he be able to find his way out before it’s too late?

Overall, the film has really good action scenes. The film keeps you engrossed in wanting to know how Hwang Jung Min is going to be able to escape. The kidnappers were truly bad guys. Some you have a little sympathy for, others not so much. You just want the worst things to happen to them. One thing I didn’t care for was the police. Yet again…the police in Korean movies LACK! I won’t give anything away, but when you watch, you will understand. If you like action and some intense drama scenes, 8.73/10 would recommend to watch.
