The newest thriller coming from South Korea. If you’re like me, and are currently on a K-drama kick, you are trying to watch any and everything that you can. The expectations are high and you can hope for a thrill ride from beginning to the end.

Midnight is the latest Korean thriller, written and directed by Kwon Oh-Seung. It stars Wi Ha-Jun (Squid Game), Jin Ki-Joo (Come and Hug Me) and Hae-Yeon Gil (In Her Place).
** SOME SPOILERS AHEAD**
Kyeong-Mi is a hearing impared woman. She has a job working at the sign language center as a counselor. After an unpleasant dinner with a client, she storms out and leaves to go pick up her mother.

After picking her mother up, Kyeong-Mi comes across a woman that has been attacked. She tried to help the girl but she doesn’t realize she is being watched by the serial killer, Do-Shik.
That’s when the movie starts taking a dark path.

Do-Shik is the kind of serial killer that can blend into society seamlessly. A smooth talker that’s also a perfectly believable psychopath. Now, he has made Kyeong-Mi his newest deadly target.

Jong Tak is looking for his missing sister. He doesn’t realize she has become Do-Shik’s most recent victim. As a retired officer of the Marine Corps, he now works at a security company. Jong Tak is overprotective of his sister, Choi Seo-Jung. They are the only family the two have left. She just wants an inch of freedom and he doesn’t want to budge. After some negotiating, Jong Tak agrees to let Choi-Seo-Jung go on a date. Soon after, she goes missing. Constantly calling and not receiving an answer, Jong Tak goes out to look for her.

At the local police station, Kyeong-Mi is telling the police the story of the missing girl. Do-Shik, having met with the police earlier, pretends to be Choi Seo-Jung’s brother. The police believe him and starts gaslighting Kyeong-Mi and her mother. At that moment, in comes, Jong-Tak to report his missing sister. Inside of the station, Do-Shik and Jong Tak meet face-to-face. Kyeong-Mi tries to warn Jong Tak about Do-Shik but is unable to before the police tells her and her mother to leave. Jong Tak figures out that Do-Shik is responsible for his missing sister and attacks him in the police station, demanding to know where his sister is.

After the confrontation in the police station, Do-Shik is released! The police just let him go and arrest Jong Tak instead.
Overall, Midnight is a movie about a deadly game of hide and seek. Do-Shik is highly focused in going after his latest target. But, it can be frustrating at times (I won’t tell you, you’re just going to have to watch). Also, there are some unanswered questions. The movie is a good taught psychological thriller to watch. The tension and drama is there, and you’re always wondering what is going to happen next. Wi Ha-Jun plays a fantastic psychopath and Jin Ki-Joo really knocks it out of the park as a woman that doesn’t let her slight disability hold her back.

If you’re a fan of thrillers and psychopaths, this is the film for you.
Rating: 9.5/10
